Justin Drew Bieber (pronouced BEE-bar) was born in Stratford, Ontario, Canada in 1994 to Pattie Mallette. As a side project, he taught himself how to sing and play the piano, drums, trumpet and guitar – sounds like Prince in the making to us! The budding star began putting on Justin Bieber concerts in competitions across Canada. Since the majority of his family members couldn’t make it out to the competitions, Justin began posting his covers of Usher, Chris Brown, Justin Timberlake and Stevie Wonder on his YouTube page.
R&B star Usher caught wind of the videos, viewed them for himself and liked Justin Bieber so much he flew him out for a meeting with Island Records exec L.A. Reid who signed him in October 2008. Justin then moved to Atlanta to be closer to his manager, even though lucky Canadians still get frequent visits from him!
Justin Bieber’s first album, “My World,” was released in November 2009 and includes Usher on some tracks. The first single off the album “One Time” reached the number 20 spot on the Billboard Hot 200 and the number 12 spot on the Canadian Hot 100 eventually earning platinum status. His next three singles “One Less Lonely Girl,” “Love Me” and “Favorite Girl” were on the top 40 US charts.
He would then go on a mini promo Justin Bieber tour performing on top ranking shows like “The Today Show” “106 and Park” with Rihanna, “It’s On with Alexa Chung,” “Chelsea Lately” and more.
